    A paradise for nature-lovers, Haridwar presents kaleidoscope of Indian culture and civilization. Haridwar termed as 'Gateway to Gods', is also known as Mayapuri, Kapila, Gangadwar as well. It is also a point of entry to Dev Bhoomi and Char Dham (Four main centers of pilgrimage in Uttarakhand) viz. Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. The district came into existence on 28th Dec. 1988. Prior to its inclusion in the newly created state of Uttarakhand, this district was a part of Saharanpur Divisional Commissionary. Haridwar is famous for the Kumbh and Ardh Kumbh fairs that are held once in every 12 and 6 years respectively. Millions of devotees assemble here during this auspicious occasion and take a dip in Ganga, the holiest river of India.
